PSP Action Replay

The Action Replay MAX for PSP delivers better gaming action. Besides allowing players to download new tricks, secrets, characters and power-ups, it can act as a save organizer to make sure you’ve always got access to a game with all items unlocked, fully maxed characters and more.

5 Stars PSP Action Replay
How this product was advertised and what it turned out to be was not the same thing. I e-mailed to return it and get a refund, the first answer was no – I e-mailed a second time requesting to return product and receive a credit. This time it was granted. To reduce further problems with this item, advertise what it really is not what you want you think it might be.

Thank you

1 Star What is this?
upon receiving this item i wasn’t impressed at all…. it’s nothing more than a memory management program, and not your typical cheat device like the other AR Replay items are. I am disappointed in this product. I wouldn’t suggest this if you are looking for a cheat device for your games.

1 Star Hardly worth it.
I fear this product is highly misleading.

Most Action Replay devices actually give you the ability to manipulate in-game conditions; offering unusual circumstances like infinite life, massive experience point rewards after battle, lots of money, item upgrades, etc. In such cases you can choose to start a game anew with the data manipulation or actually use the device to alter an already-existing game.

Not So With the PSP Action Replay!

This device is basically an overpriced way of putting someone else’s data onto your PSP. With it, you can take “game saves” from Datel’s website or directly from other players and upload them to your PSP’s memory card, basically putting onto your PSP the ability to play someone else’s game. In most cases, these game saves are already at the end of the game. Now it can be somewhat interesting to play through a game ignoring some of the more cumbersome mechanics of the game, but what is the point of taking someone else’s data and skipping the game entirely?

In addition, there are multiple OTHER ways of acquiring game saves and putting them onto your PSP, for cheaper and with better manipuation possibilities. I recommend PSP Media Manager. With this software, you can go to various websites and download game saves and upload them to your PSP, but it also has video/photo/music etc. support as well. It’s cheaper, does pretty much the same thing and has more options to offer.

I love my AR Max items for my other systems, but in this case, this AR Max missed the mark.

2 Stars Saves Only, Not Action
The people at datel have been very mixed with the uses of the action Replay for each of their systems. They’ve had ones with great codes like the Gamecube and Playstation 2, and there are ones that haven’t delivered with the promise of great games. That can definitely be declared as a dissapointment with the PSP edition. This one you can go to the codejunkies.com website, and download saves that make it too easy to beat the game, rather than codes that just enhance and deliver the excitement on the game. That is the sad part. Other than it doubling as a memory card, it doesn’t actually work as something that makes it fun to play games like Daxter, or Lumines. Although I would normally suggest this as a must buy, this one doesn’t hit the mark at all.

1 Star Action Replay Fails again!
This problem happened before with the Xbox, and now it has moved to the PSP. “Power” saves are nothing more than just the game already beat for you.

Codes involved with the Cube, DS, and PS2 Action Replays were able to alter a wide variety of game parameters to your advantage while still allowing you to experience the game.

Power saves allow you to skip playing the game altogether because someone already played it for you.

To Datels defense, some of their “Power” saves do in fact give you advantages such as tons of money and 0% completion. The package claims “thousands” of these saves are avaliable. Upon installing the software and checking for official Datel saves, I found only around 100, and possibly 500 more user(played it for you) saves.

To top it off I emailed customer support at Datel about the lack of codes and received no response.

4 Stars A lot of fun – my favourite sport game
This is one of my favourite games. Playing the rookie scenario is a lot of fun.

5 Stars Just plain fun
Let me make this clear, I hate baseball. I don’t watch it, I don’t follow the latest news on it and I definitely don’t own any baseball games…until now.

I picked this up on black friday because of its great price point and favorable reviews on game websites. I primarily use my psp to pass the time during train commutes. I got this game, put it in, began playing on a train ride and almost missed my stop! I was so engrossed with the game. I forgot I was even playing on the PSP..the game play is right up there with its console counter parts.

It’s definitely worth a try…I’m not sure of the lasting value just yet, but I suspect I’ll be playing it often for months to come.

4 Stars Fantastic MLB Action for your PSP
This is a fantastic game, that provides an arcadey approach to an old favorite. The game does offer some sim functions, but it’s the arcade aspects that make for an exciting and innovative approach to portable baseball gaming. The game is cool, in that it will add “kudos” points to your score, on top of your regular scoring of runs. You can use these Kudos points to play off stupendous plays and even steal “types of pitches” from the pitcher on the mound of the other team.

Most pitchers start with their regular assortment of types of pitches, but pull a slick move, and Barry Zito of the SF Giants loses his curveball. Do it again, and say goodbye to his slider.

I recommend this game for anyone suffering through the end of the season of your favorite team, when they didn’t get as far in the playoffs as you may have wanted. I’m suffering the off season now, and this game will help to bring me through football season, into the Spring next year!

4 Stars Fun Arcade Title While It Lasts
True Story: As I was playing MLB: The Show ‘07, I tried to load my 7-year career in “Road to the Show” just to find out that my data is corrupted!(Those of you who are reading this, I guess I should recommend that you should back-up your data every year while playing games like this, but that’s another story.) Obviously peeved, I felt it woould be too much to go back and re-do the whole thing over again, so I decided to pick up this title for PSP. The Bigs is an arcade-style title for PSP that is fun, simple to control, great graphics game that emphasizes big hits, great plays and crushing homeruns. While it doesn’t have as much realism as “MLB: The Show” series, it is still very much fun. Instead of “Road to the Show,” there is basically a Rookie Challenge mode, where you build your own character, hit spring training, compete in a series of fun mini-games such as on-field obsticle course, fielding and hitting. After that, you earn points based on your performance and add attributes to your guy. Instead of traditional 9-inning games, the games are 5-innings. You go from city-to-city, completing tasks, such as, Hit a HR, come back from a 2-run defecit in the late innings, you even get a chance to steal players from other teams! The commentator often refers to you as “The Rook” whenever you come up to the plate and he always embelishes on how your team invested a lot into you and that you have to improve yourself. About a third way into the season, you will earn respect of your teamates and you will pick a nickname for yourself. Since that point, commentator will refer to you by that nickname. Later on, you will have to select your walk-up-to-the-plate theme and the coolest feature of all, pick a baseball bat that matches your attitude(your nation’s flag, flames, skulls, even pink hearts hehe.)

Pros:

Simple batting and pitching controls

Great Graphics and video: the game enters into slow-motion whenever a fielder is trying to make a catch or an outstanding throw.

Great contact action: Whenever there is a play at the plate, there is a tug-o-war style graphic and you have to mash your X button in order to win a tug-o-war. If runner wins, he will steamroll the catcher. If catcher wins, he puts his shoulder down and runner bounces halfway to third for a loud OUT.

Cons:

Fielding and Running controls could use a tune. Very difficult and needs time to get used to.

Value- Once you beat the Rookie Challenge, you can probably start over and play in another league and see what challenges the other league(NL/AL) has to offer. After that, you have seen it all and I’m not sure if you’d play this game again. Unlike MLB: The Show, there is very little replay value here.

Bottom Line: If you are a baseball fan, you will love it…but not for a long time.
